Recently, I've been able to take a short trip out to West-Central Indiana in search of Queen Snakes. A lot of recent rain and warm temps made for some promising conditions. Despite only having about four hours to look around, I was still able to find a queen and a lot more.
I flipped this guy under a log along the trail.
Eastern Redback Salamander Plethodon cinereus -LIFER
Longtails were really common under rocks by the creek. This population was more orange than most.
Longtail Salamander Eurycea longicauda
Five-lined Skink Eumeces fasciatus
American Bullfrog Rana catesbiana
These snakes were pretty common around the creek. They had a really nice color contrast to them.
Midland Water Snake Nerodia sipedon pleuralis
The last one is really interesting. I am thinking its part albino.
And finally, the queen.
Queen Snake Regina septemvitatta
Shale rock-piles in and along the creek turned out to be habitat for most of everything found that day.
That's mostly it. Hope you enjoyed!
