S. Illinois Chorus Frog ID Needed

Post by tspuckler »

I live in Ohio where we have Western Chorus Frogs.
This was found today in Southern Illinois.
Is it something different than the Ohio version?

It's probably a Psuedicris feriarum/triseriata. I know they sometimes interbreed in southern Illinois. Cool find though!

This doesn't look like triseriata to me at all really. I only have those near me, so I've seen loads of them.

It's Triseriata or maculata, what ever Illinois is calling them. I've seen plenty old spotted and patternless ones. Body shape doesn't look right for crucifer, and I believe streckeri would be fatter.

Looks to be feriarum. I don't see too many triseriata without the stripes down here, I lean towards feriarum. Been awhile since I have seen anything but Westerns here too.

Can't do it from my phone, but try to measure the length of the tibia in pixels, and compare to the SVL. INHS says that if tibia is greater than 47% of SVL then its feriarum. If less its triseriata.
