Red Salamander Eggs

Today I found my first pair of Red Salamanders with eggs, so I wanted to share that with you all!

awesome find! i didnt know they guarded eggs. especially in pairs

Yeah pseudotriton and desmognathus tend to actually have some parental care of eggs. Pretty cool to see it in person.

Don't you know the rules?!?! You are supposed to post a picture of slug eggs and then we debate it!

Kidding, very cool observation. I've only seen it myself with Dusky's, didn't know Reds did it too.

red salamander eggs have only rarely been observed. Great find! Im not so sure about that being a "pair." Male parental care is extremely rare in salamanders and I do not think it has been documented in Plethodontids.

I did some reading and discovered female communal nesting is somewhat common, so I think you are right, probably both ladies.
