Indian snake ID, please!

Post by Hans Breuer (twoton) »

Hi all,

a friend photographed this snake in India (Gujarat, near Dasada / Little Rann of Kutch) Would someone know the ID?

Thanks in advance!

PM Chaitanya, he's a really good herper and posts on here sometimes. He herps all over India.

My confidence is only moderate, but looks like a very pale Platyceps ventromaculatus.

Looks like some snake belonging to Psammophiinae, what species is hard to tell.

That indeed is a Banded Racer(Argyrogena fasciolata), from the faded bands its an adult. I hope your friend didn't pick it up as these are very nervous snakes and bite like crazy. :P
