I found my first Kirtland's Snake...unfortunately it was a little less than lively.

Zach - That sucks. But perhaps you have located a good spot to find them in the future(?) Very nice pattern for that specimen.

My first one got down a hole before I could get it in hand. I didn't get a shot... I think you need to invest some time in that area to get a live one now.

Yes, belly up in the bottom of a puddle.

Almost looks like it was bitten by something or run over by a Mtn Bike?

That sucks. I have found only a few kirtlands and one dead one. All in the same location in southern indiana. Have been to same area 5-10 times a year for 5-7 years and only seen a few. That ones dorsal pattern is better than what I have seen. Good luck finding one this year. I am hopeful to get one this yr as it has been 2 yrs or so since I found one. Main goal his yr is a queen snake since I have never got one yet

Congrats to you! I know the feeling. I've only seen one though. I'm still searching for a Mud Snake. At some point I think I might have to decide that Farancia are just an elaborate ploy to keep me running in circles for an animal that is tantamount to Sasquatch and Unicorns.
