So Cal Rain this week?

Post by Biker Dave » March 23rd, 2014, 12:05 pm

Looking at the weather forecasts for the coming week I am seeing "chances of rain" and "rain likely". This could make for a good weekend of herping, yes?

Yeah, if it actually rains. lol All I'm seeing is 50% chance for Wed. We need days of rain, because it usually doesn't pure when it does rain.

Thus far it hasn't been enough rain, to reset the looking under cover season.

It depends on the species you are targeting, habitat and methods of your herping.... Hard to miss in Late March, if you flexible in your targets and methods..

Thanks guys. I'm still on the fence about spending the gas money going out there this weekend.
As far as targets, I'm a generalist when it comes to the herps. Sure boas are cool, but I won't be disappointed if I dont find any.... as long as I can spot other things! But no more utas...please God NO MORE UTAS!

Looks like the bulk of the rain is in northern Baja according to the NWS.

SD got about .2 -.3" yesterday. I think that's enough to bring out some herps.

Probably depends on where you want to go. San Diego country should be productive, compared to anywhere north of that. Let us know what you find when you go out in AZ.

Yeah, slow day if you rely on set chum board lines ;)

Very dry up here in SJ. Similar rainfall as SD. Log flipped this today (OK, it was a really big log):

It was cold today (47F-53F) when I was out (38F last night), so they were not UP. They be chillin' 8-) in their log cabin.

Only this one could be seen and it was tucked in tighter than a chuckwalla with a hyper 8 year old pullin' on his tail:
