I don't know how you do it, but you capture things that the naked eye couldn't possible get seeing this animal. The light is gorgeous on your shots, and the animals are truly stars.

Thanks, Hans, Justin.

Justin - my diffuser is really big, and still, I find myself struggling with full body shots (bigger lens to subject distance).

I don't handle venomous snakes either. I will move them with a hook at times. But that's it. I hope you find a blue coral. I look forward to your pics.

Don't. Tongs irritate and scare snakes, and you want calm animals for your shoots. Hook work is much more gentle - if you do it right, the snake won't even know it's being manipulated.

Stunning photos as usual, what short of lighting setup are you using? Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Hans. Okay, no snake tong for now. Still haven't come across any venomous snakes yet (beside vipers, which are easy). I'll have a better idea after a few encounters, I hope.

OK, I give up. I don't see anything in your rig that would make it any different from anyone else's. I have pretty much the same setup, only Pentax instead of Canon (careful what you might want to say now :-)), and instead of a hotshoe flash I use a wireless flash/diffuser, wielded by my beautiful assistant (or my left hand, whatever's available). AND you shoot freehand, which makes it even weirder. By rights, you should be taking better-than-average-but-not-overly-spectacular photos.

But you don't. You take photos with a clarity and sharpness that's the envy of the entire planet.

So ... to what do you attribute the intensity of your images?

Thanks in advance from all of us! :-)

Here's my rig, see how big my diffuser is?

270EX on hot shoe. The inside of the impraboard bounce card is covered with reflective foil to bounce light downward.

This rig won't work if the subject is too far away.

That might be the ticket. That thing doesn't let any light escape, it seems! Thanks again for the education!
