I'm almost embarassed to bring this up again but...
In my recent Texas ID thread the whiptail below found by the Rio Grande at the south western end of Big Bend National Park and thought by me at first to be Aspidoscelis tessellata was identified as A. septemvittata. At the time I just placed my faith in the competence of those who replied happy to add an extra surprise species to my list.
However, the ID has since been nagging me. To me it doesn't look like other pictures I've seen of the species, nor does it seem to fit the description. In particular I am bothered by the pattern not fading significantly anterior to the hips. Could I persuade anyone to explain to me why it really is septemvittata, alternatively offer a third opinion?

It's a tesselata. Look at them leg markings!

Oh, yes, the thighs. I'm with the young tesselata ID.
