3,665 records in 30 days

Post by jonathan » December 1st, 2014, 11:25 pm

There are only 30 days left in 2014...and 3,665 records left for NAHERP to hit its 200,000th record. Incredibly, at this time in 2011 we didn't even have 100,000 records yet. I think 200,000 would be an awesome milestone to ring in the new year with.

We've been behind pace recently, but 122 records/day for the rest of the year certainly is possible. Now isn't the best time of year for getting new records, but I'm pretty sure the goal is realistic enough that we could reach it just by getting all of our historical records in and encouraging our friends who haven't entered their records yet to input a few.

I'm trying! I have a bit of a backlog, but I hope to have all of my 2014 records in by December 31, 11:59 p.m.!

I also need to give some serious consideration to using the app next year in the field.

Yeah, I think the app could make a huge difference in terms of efficiency of record-keeping. We really need to get as many people as possible informed about the app and the ease with which it makes data entry possible. I think we could get a lot more people contributing if they knew how simple it what to collect data with the app and how easy it makes it for us to create our own herping maps and life list tables.

I'm considering buying a smart phone next year just so I can use the app to collect data for a research project I'm involved in.

The app is awesome IMO. I dont usually take photos for it, but I capture the record with it. Then its one button for the synchronization. I edit my photos before adding to the db.
Folks should consider doing the same. especially cropping your photo.
Also, putting your records in the db within a day or two of discovery will lessen the burden and also keep the pertinent information fresh in your memory.

Current total record count is 198,517. 1,483 to go!

I started using the app this month (LOVE IT!). I've been taking voucher shots at the same time, since my phone camera is pretty decent.

I'm pretty good at pinpointing spots on Google Earth, unless it's in deep woods, so I appreciate a little more accuracy in my records.

Using the camera on the phone sometimes sucks up too much battery but its convenient. I like to edit/crop my photos first anyway. So I entere the record sans pic then edit the record later.

Kyle,

That is a really good idea. I will be working hard next year to keep up. I fell really behind in 2014 and pretty much gave up on adding most of my records past June.
