First snakes of the year for my family LIFERS

Post by simpleyork »

With the warm weather I dragged my family out to the marsh to go look for Valley garters, as I had yet to ever see any.
Found 10- valleys
1- Green racer
1- wandering garter
handful of bullfrogs
and heard plenty of chorus frogs

Nice big females. One looks like it has a meal.
Was this in your county where we talked about or did you go north?

North, most of the others we found also were fat from food, hopefully with bullfrog tadpoles. All females best I could tell.

Nice valley garters, Chris! I haven't found any myself, either. (This is Jeff, by the way)

Nice start to the year Chris, so far I haven't seen any snakes despite three outings (not herp related) that I still tried to look very hard for stuff. I did hear chorus frogs by work the other day, and spotted a turtle in the Jordan river the other day.

My friends are seeing lots moving in Zion and St. george, too bad my trip down there isn't for a few more weeks

Jeremy, that is one dirty turtle. I get excited whenever I see turtles in Utah, even though I know they're just released pets (red-eared slider?). I used to stop at that pond on the south side of BYU campus off 8th north...full of sliders. :) Just that quick herp sighting each day to and from class brought joy.
