Cannibalism and Carnivory in Anuran Tadpoles?

Post by MCHerper »

Hi Folks,

I was wondering if someone could provide some good resources or info for me to learn more about carnivorous and cannibalistic feeding in anuran tadpoles, especially for species in the Northeastern US? I was under the impression that the Northeastern ranid and hylid tadpoles were exclusively herbivorous, but recently read that A. americanus tadpoles are readily eaten by wood frog tadpoles, and that wood frog tadpoles show cannibalistic behavior under certain environmental stressors. I am fascinated by this, and would really love to learn more, especially if someone here could provide info!!

Thanks,

MC
