Family Florida Trip May 2015(Pythons, Tegus & More Snakes)
Me and My Family are on a 2 Week Trip in Florida and during these 2 Weeks We will be doing A LOT of Herping! We've already been here a few Days and have a few LIFERS already!!(1 of Them sounds like "Urmese Ython" lol!!!) These Trips are always a lot of Fun considering the fact We live in Montreal,Canada and don't have anywhere near the amount of Herps back Home. We're Staying 1 Week in Florida City & 1 Week in Spring Hill. Hopefully We'll be able to find lots of different Herps. Lots of Pics to come at the End of the Trip!
Here's a few pics so far:
A Green Water Snake

Young CottonMouth

some type of Crab

softshell Turtle

Last Pic I'll put is a sample of the "LIFER" I've been waiting to see a Long time.... The Craziest thing is that Not Only did We find 1 but We found 2 of these Guys maybe 5-10 Min apart spread out across the Road:

When Our Trip is Done and I have Free Time I'll Post EVERYTHING!

There are a few side roads that are a few miles long, but the main road is your best bet. That's where I found most of my HERPs last week.double d wrote:Is there alot of side roads to take like long dirt roads? Or does everyone just go back and forth on main road, so excited .. Tegu at KFC is a great shot! What an unexpected find, LOL. Ive been to ENP twice and havent got to see a Python yet, how did they act? Did they take off? or just kind of slither away? Seem mean? or curious? Handle any of the Pythons? Also, and being from NJ I could be way wrong, I didnt think Scarlet Kings were common in the park? That is a very cool snake.
Re: Family Florida Trip May 2015(Pythons, Tegus & More Snake
I had been to that KFC a few times n never thought to look down til that day. 3 of the Pythons started to take Off as soon as I stopped the Car. 1 of them didn't mind until I got Close to take Pics. They weren't aggressive at all. Ive been to the Park a few times n this was the 1st time I seen Scarlet Kings. I actually saw them on several nights. It was weird.herper1 wrote:Tegu at KFC is a great shot! What an unexpected find, LOL. Ive been to ENP twice and havent got to see a Python yet, how did they act? Thanks mtratcliffe , I like to cruise pretty slow is it possible ? Or to many other cars to take my time . Does anyone know of any dry scrub habitat with hiking trails around the main road , a w.m.a. perhaps in that area?

Hi everyone . I am going to south Florida soon and I would like to know some tips on field herping, rock flipping, road cruising, etc. I will be in fort Myers for a while, and then I am visiting Key Largo and areas around there. If anyone knows some tips on herping there, I would be glad to know them. I will also be canoeing in the everglades if you know anything about that.

If you are going to South Florida this time of year, you won't see much during the day, save for some exotic lizards. Road cruise only at night, and you can't go wrong on the Everglades National Park Main Road. If you start in the evening, you shouldn't have to pay an entrance fee.ReptileLover6135 wrote:Hi everyone . The Everglades has some good paddling from what I hear, but you will want plenty of sunscreen and bug spray. Also, be sure to bring plenty of food and water when you go into the park. There's a convenience store in Flamingo, but nowhere proper to eat this time of year.

Just as an FYI, it is illegal to handle anything within the ENP (and that includes the invasives). Park rangers do patrol the main park road, and will pull over anyone who appears to be roadcruising to make sure they don't have any wildlife in the car. They also don't like people to go so far below the speed limit; some will say to go faster, others will say to put your hazards on if you're driving slow. Always put on your hazards if you have stopped to take photos.herper1 wrote:Tegu at KFC is a great shot! What an unexpected find, LOL.
