Hey guys,
I am leaving for my band Scalped's USA Tour in 2 days and since I haven't posted anything in a while, decided to throw some photos up here.
I have not been spending as much time in the field as I would like the last couple of months. Tour preparations, playing shows, work and a relationship really takes up herp time!
When I did manage to get out, I was either out solo or with Elliot and/or Aron. Here are some photos- I am currently working my last few days of work, so I will be quick and skip on the long commentary.
Lifer Sierra Mountain Kingsnake- Eldorado County County
*First Bay Area Horned- Santa Clara County, West of HWY 280
Forest Sharp from an area I have never seen one- Santa Clara County
Melanistic California Legless Lizard- Santa Cruz County
I really liked this Coast Z that I found in the sandhills
Adult Dicamp on the crawl, mid day, in Marin County- biggest I have ever seen
Yellow-legged Frog- Marin County
That's it for now! I am hoping that I will have time in between being stuck in the van and playing shows (and I guess partying..I don't know) to herp. Who knows what the rest of the US will have to offer!
Take care,
-Zach

Wow, Zach, that's an ambitious tour. I hope it's great for you.
It would have been nice to be able to say Hi when you're in Cincinnati but I leave the morning of your show there for South Carolina. I know you're moving at a rapid pace but if you have any questions about the city let me know.

Great find, as always, Zach. Your photography keeps getting better too. The habitat shot of the Dicamp from Marin County is especially cool.
Congrats also on the Coast Horned Lizard from Santa Clara County. Are you saying it's your personal first HL from the Bay Area? Or the first HL from West of Hwy 280 recorded in the database? Or maybe both?
Lots of luck and success for the US tour with your band!

Good hearing from you! I'll let you know if I have any questions, for sure, especially if I have some time to go herping!
Thanks, Robert! I still no nothing about photography, so I am glad they are appearing better!RobertH wrote:Great find, as always, Zach. Your photography keeps getting better too. The habitat shot of the Dicamp from Marin County is especially cool.

The Coast Horned Lizard was my first from the Bay Area! It was found west of Highway 280, which is pretty cool, because I know that they are more often found in the East Bay
Hopefully the tour goes well! I'll be in your area for a few days so I'll drop you and Nic a line!
Thanks, Nick! You should come out to one of our SoCal shows or herp with me!shredsteban wrote:Awesome post Zach! Great finds as always and good luck on tour!

If your tour takes you to Kansas City, let me know. I have a few spots there and will be out there this summer for a few weeks.

Zach,
Yes, do drop us a line when you are in our area. Time permitting (for both of us), we might just be able to sneak in a little herping.

What time of year did you find the Sierra Z?
I was clued in on a great location in El Dorado County by a fellow forum member and after weeks of rain and watching temps only reach the 50s throughout much of April and May, the weather broke and it was the first day temps reached into the low 70s in weeks. I spent 14 hours searching the locale on May 27th and I'm still without my first sighting of a zonata ever.
It was terribly demoralizing. I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong to have spent several years looking without finding a Z anywhere anytime ever.

Beautiful finds, all. Zach. I've been meaning to say so, but everytime I go to post, I get caught on that black-phase Legless Lizard, and I have to go sit in a corner until I calm down.
Good luck on your tour!
