Another lifer in Charleston, SC!

Post by jack4rogers » August 11th, 2015, 4:42 pm

It was pretty slow last night, getting only 2 Cottonmouths and 2 Redbelly Watersnakes and I was about to call it a night when suddenly the ever present greenish Wolf Spider eyeshine got a flash of pink!! My most wanted non-snake lifer for a while now, Eastern Spadefoot!

Somehow this post slipped by me. Cool find man. I love spadefoots (spadefeet?) Did we ever decide on the plural form?

I always hear the plural referred to as spadefoots by professional (PhD) herpetologists.

Ever since I first saw this post I've been trying to determine eye color shine for toads and frogs, or at least looking for pink. I've found many, but their eyes never seen to shine pink or any hot color that would give away their spot. I just stumble upon them (all anurans) without seeing them early. Always get the wolf spider shines though.

Yes, I think technically it is spadefoots, but I think spadefeet sounds better. Either way, they're cute animals.
