For Kent

Post by billboard »

Good evening friends,
Or good morning...
Depending on your perspective,
Or time zone,
Or whatever,

It is with much sadness, sorrow and grief,
That I announce to the world the passing of Mr. Kent VanSooy.

Kent passed away from this world peacefully and quietly this afternoon, surrounded by family and those who loved him.

My heart and mind are sorrowful and pained,
Yet at the same time,
I walk down a trail in my mind, of many spring afternoons, sauntering through the hills and rocks of the backcountry, accompanied by the most amazing friend I could ever hope to have.

Kent has gone off to another realm....

Free to explore and discover eternal amazement and wonder.

I love you Kent...

Flip some of those rocks in Heaven for me,

And get those board lines set up ....

I'll be there in about thirty seasons or so...

They should be producing by then.

P.s.

Me and some of the guys are out in the desert tonight,

And we just renamed Kitt Peak...

It shall now be known,.
From this moment forward,
As...

Kent Peak.

P.p.s.

We'll get a pyro for you tonight.

I only met Kent once, but I feel like I knew him through NAFHA, FHF, and his incredibly great reputation. His snake bite account is something that will stay with me forever. Thank you Kent for writing that article, it has and will, continue to make a lasting impact to everyone who reads it.

We lost a great guy, but his legacy will carry on.

Prayers for peace for all whose lives were touched by Kent. We interacted infrequently, but knew him as a gentle, learned man.

I have only met Kent a few times but he made a very great impression on me and I feel the loss greatly. He truly will be missed by all who's life he touched and a sadness for all those herpers that will never get a chance to meet him....

Nicholas and I are very sad that Kent had to pass. I will always be grateful for the support he gave me, and especially Nicholas, in our early years. And his natural, elegant style of herp photography has been, and will continue to be, a source of inspiration for Nicholas. We feel privileged that, by sheer luck, we had the chance to spend a day in the field with Kent in AZ just a few weeks ago. Kent, we will never forget you.
