Turtle ID?

Post by Rancorrye »

Found this while I was out today. I was only able to get this quick photo before it dove under. Not sure if anyone is able to ID it from these photos.

It was found in Utah so obviously not native. Looks to me like some kind of long neck turtle, but I am the worst at turtle IDs. I'm not even sure if its native to the US.

Neck looks too long to be a red-ear. You can see the edge of the shell under the water a decent ways. But it could just be distortion from the water.

That looks exactly like an old Trachemys to me to. I think the thing you are seeing as the neck is just the posterior edge of the skull.

Thanks. Must just be the angle I was at that's making the neck look distorted in the water.
