From your your neck of the woods. Caution...Thamnophis heavy

Post by Tim Borski »

I’ve been meaning to do a post like this for a while now but sometimes life gets in the way.
For the past few years I’ve traveled to the Midwest to visit family and old friends. The first couple of trips my boys and I chased inverts…they loved all the Sphinx and large Silk moths, especially the Luna moths. We found many and decided to start chasing snakes. This is a long story and I’ll not get into here. So we chased them for a couple years and then as they grew older they decided to pursue fish…it’s a seemingly non-ending progression. We fish now much more than the other two but still chase snakes and inverts when conditions are correct.
Along the way we have turned up a couple hundred Western Fox, Eastern Milks, Smooth greens, Garters and even the Hogs that Carl K loved so much. It’s been a fine ride watching them grow up.
Here’s a few attractive T. sirtalis sirtalis encountered along the way.

I hate not being able to edit any more. Originally I had grandiose ideas of putting up 50 or 60 different animals and then do another post solely of attractive Western Fox and another of unique Milks but it's just too time consuming. Sorry about the duplicate Tham and have a nice Fall.

Oh no man, don't quit now! "The fish is chasing your lure!"

Those are some screamer garters. I'd love to see your foxes & milks. If you get a little time.

Thanks

Tim,

thanks for trying I know we talked about how hard it is to do a nice post on FHF compared to other online venues. I appreciate it nonetheless. Don't give up. Tight lines to you.

Awesome garters! I'd love to see some more, and definitely some midwestern milks.

I swear, it is only this forum (the Midwest). I posted an announcement once to all the chapter forums, later discovered a typo, and was able to correct it on all of the forums except this one.

It seems like a quick PM to a moderator somewhere could fix this issue. Being able to edit is important to good posts, IMO.

Love those orange garters!!! As stated by others, please post the milks and fox snakes. If they are as interesting as the garters we have to see them!!!

Gobble, Gobble Tim,

Some of the Best Thamnophis WI has to offer. I like to find them with the green/blue dorsal lateral, the pastel sunset colored sides are fantastic !! I have been there and have seen several with the Orange sides where most have white dorsal laterals but a few that have like this mint green colored dorsal lateral that I find most stunning. Understand the complications and look forward to seeing the milks and fox, Tim. Seeing your pics and reading the well put together story behind them is like after you have had your thanksgiving fill at the table and then find your self back in the kitchen 30 min. later looking for more !! Thanks Tim, maybe some spring we'll cross paths up there. I'm there every June.

always will like them(just not excited about them). they are very very pretty. the only neat garter i ever found was "missing" it's dorsal stripe. actually it was black cause you could see it faintly. looked like it was missing altogether though.

i'm doing well, thanks.

planning a massasauga expedition for the spring. that will be work but going to explore an historic area. i think they are still there but i have to go find them. looks like there will be six of us to do the habitat evaluation. it will still take a full weekend. also doing some fisher work this winter in outagamie county. that will keep me busy till spring.
