Bite marks on deck post?!?

Bite marks on deck post?!?

These marks were on one of the posts of my parents back deck? They go about 1 1/2 inch deep into the wood at a downward angle. Can anyone help identify?

Woodpecker damage, from birds looking for carpenter bee larvae.

Thats what we were thinking it may be but, I've never seen woodpecker damage so I was unsure. Thanks a ton

WOOD frogs hadn't even crossed my mind. Ha ha!
