Random Question

Post by Jeremy Wright »

Hi all,
I was just wondering something after looking at Californiaherps.com
On certain pictures, there is the name of the photographer and then "Specimen courtesy of ________"
Does this refer to a specimen found by another person in the wild or a specimen that is part of that ______ person's captive collection?
Thanks,
Jeremy

I would assume it would be in that person's personal collection, but it could just bean animal that someone found and then brough to them for photographing and then released afterwards.

Jeremy-

The names beside the herps are for photographic credit. The photos are of herps in the field. To the best of my knowledge, none of the herps on the site are people's pets.

Derek

edit: I see what you're talking about, Jeremy. The photos that say "Specimen courtesy of…" appear to be from personal collections and private/public institutions.
I should add that capturing and later releasing a herp is prohibited in CA, so one can reasonably assume that's not the case with the animals that appear on Californiaherps.
