Who wants a Melanistic Valley Gartersnake

I'm looking for someone who has experience with keeping gartersnakes as pets. This snake was found during the drought with dried up skin and eye caps. It was nursed back to health but is now blind. He can eat fish from a bowl but needs water to be shallow or else he wont be able to catch the fish if numbers are low (4 fish). Will eat night crawlers from a water bowl and bullfrog metamorphs. However a frog on land is too much ti handle. Once he loses a fish on land, he cant relocate it and will leave it to die. Which is another reason for shallow bowl water. He'll eat within the bowl and a drop can be recaught. Must be fish no bigger than his head (small-medium feeders).

Special care is required but this is truley one of the most unique snakes you'll ever see. Please only people who know how to care for him, WILL NOT get bored and release him (he'll die and it's illegal) apply. If you know someone you think might want him, post or PM. I had him sexed and if done right, it's a male. I'm gifting him and you will have to provide your own terrarium and pick him up in Sacramento.

This is what he looks like

Hey Richard:
How about offering to donate him to the Effie Yeauw Nature Center in Carmichael? A friend of mine used to work there and they have a native herp collection. They take good care of their teaching zoo. Here is a link to their website with their contact information:

Fitchi are nice looking snakes! You are among the few I'd trust with a spot. Let me know if you're up this way. If found 3 DOR with sly blue similar to the Red sided garters high on the lateral and extending onto the full dorsal stripe  Im hot on there trail, but not success so far...

Thanks Hanna, I forgot about that place. I remember they had a tiger sal, kingsnake, and either a one eyed or one legged owl, I think...long time since I been there. I agree, thats a great place to take him. Thanks  I can visit him there too. Cool stuff :thumb:
