Green Sea Turtle in Monterey Bay

Post by Sceloporus »

Hello guys. I am new to the forum. I have been herping for a while now, but I decided to start posting here because I had a fairly rare find - a green sea turtle in Monterey Bay. My friend Jude and I saw it surface off of the east side of Municipal Wharf 2. It had a large amount of algae growing on its head and shell. We also saw a large mola mola swim by the pier, but no pictures.

We also caught a black and yellow rockfish earlier in the day while poke poling. We released it.

Fantastic find! I'm now completely consumed with jealousy.

I know right? I think it's a good day to go fishing in Monterey.

It looks like an Olive Ridley based on carapace shape and small anterior costal. Ridleys are known from Monterey Bay, Greens not.
