North Carolina weekend

Post by blacktara » September 28th, 2016, 3:50 pm

Here's some pics of my trip to North Carolina last weekend

So my little excursion to North Carolina turned out pretty well. All stuff is Hyde County unless otherwise noted Let's start with the snakes

Saw several garters - Thamnophis sirtalis -
Image

The obligatory southern copperhead - Agkitrodon contortrix -
Image

A small brown snake - Storeira dekayi
Image

A nice rough green snake - Opheodrys aestivus
Image

Several nerodia, but unfortunately only one that was not d.o.r - I believe this is a neonate fasciata - correct me if I'm wrong
Image

And two of my primary target - The red pygmy - Carolina pygmy rattlesnake - Sistrurus miliarius miliarius
Image

Image

Saturday night in Jones county I found two fairly fresh d.o.r corns - went back Sunday night to try and get a live one but it got cold real fast and nothing was moving
Image

I think five total black racers - Unfortunately all just streaking across my ine of sight except for one d.o.r neo

Also found one good sized shed on a hike - I think coach (?)
Image

Lots of turtles
Baby common snapper - Chelydra serpentine
Image

Little painted turtle - Chrysemys picta
Image

Eastern box turtle - Terrepene Carolina Carolina
Image

Billions of bullfrogs and leopard frogs - and .....

Sometimes you find weird stuff on flooded roads

I think a baby musk would have a sharper keel.

It is definitely a baby mud. Musks have a sharper keel, yes, but also have bright yellow lines on the nose and eyes.

Nice job on those pigmies- very pretty!
