ID help with a very small frog? Opinions are all over

Post by Tally_alotless »

Hi all! I photographed a very small (maybe a bit smaller than a quarter) the other day and opinions are all over the place. It was a very dark, dark green with a light green X on its back. Mottled, slightly warty. Two prominent warts toward the front of the back; one on either side.
Is there a way I can post a photo? It was not a peeper ... I have someone saying "leopard" but I do not thin so. Someone else mentioned cricket but we have those in abundance and they are much lighter green. Someone else suggested baby spadefoot. Possible? I was not able to catch the eyes or the back legs.
Thanks!

You can upload the photo to Flickr and then paste the BB code link in a reply here. Where was this frog found, and in what kind of habitat?

If you post a clear picture, I guarantee you that we will be able to identify it.

Got it! Thank you. I'll do that tomorrow! Three very different id's. I am very excited to get some more educated opinions. Thanks!

Hi all! Here's a link to the few photos I grabbed before the little guy was gone. The light was bad -- very near dusk.

Thanks!

Agreed, 100% a Cricket Frog. We need the general location to narrow down the species.

Thank you! We are in the Philadelphia area. I had no idea they could be so much darker than the others I have seen. Very cool. Thank you!

If you're in the Philadelphia area then it's a northern cricket frog (Acris crepitans). They are actually state endangered in Pennsylvania so that's a nice find.
