I am from Indiana and will be in southern Mississippi in late March/early April. If anyone has any tips on areas or better yet could meet up and show me around that would be awesome. I dont know the area well. I will be with family so will have limited herping time so hoping to find some help to maximize my limited time. PM me if you have any helpful ideas on where i should go or would want to meet up. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I had one person nice enough to share some info in PN so hoping to have some good luck.

Like Noah, I'm unfamiliar with the area. That time of year though, you may have luck hiking waterways for Nerodia. Other than that, I can't really be of much help sorry.

I haven't herped much through there, but try paddling some of the rivers to find some of the endemic turtles of the Southeast. There should be some outfitters to rent from. On warm (not hot) days, roadcruising should be productive. Try DeSoto National Forest - plenty of roads through there. There's also the Pascagoula River WMA. You may be able to flip a few species of salamanders in the woods if it has rained lately. All in all, it should be a great time of year to go herping there.

I've been told by much more experienced people to stop at bridges and look for turtles. Maybe you can turn up something that way?
