Got to visit Lawrence in 1970 for field course and had the honor of meeting Henry Fitch and J.T. Collins. My brother (ex-zoo) and myself (ex-parks) hope to visit this spring to photograph whatever wildlife we can find. Would especially like to see some of the toads, ornate boxes, w, hognose, and prairie King. Anyone got any ideas of general places to visit? Range wise, south central and southwest parts of state look good. I do have "Handbook of Reptiles and Amphibians of Kansas" by Smith.
Thanks,

Cimarron National Grasslands and Cheyenne Bottoms were the two stops I made last time I past through Kansas and both sites were amazing. Cimarron is a spectacular short grass prairie and Cheyenne Bottoms is a stunning wetland. I also find the Kansas herp atlas really helpful http://webcat.fhsu.edu/ksfauna/herps/in ... ge=species
