AZ folks - Sonoran Green? toad ID clarification

Post by BillMcGighan » September 12th, 2017, 7:52 am

Quick clarification from AZ oriented folks… (This is where I really miss a regional forum!)

I found this toad in Santa Cruz County in the range of the Sonoran Green Toad (Anaxyrus retiformis ). It superficially “looks” more like a more eastern, Anaxyrus debilis .

The greenish color is obvious as are the oblong parotoid glands. There were many Red-spotted toads in the area (Anaxyrus punctatus); not surprising.

Can one of you good folks comment on this so I can properly enter it in the Data Base?

Thanks in advance, Bill

Hi Bill.
Pretty sure this is actually a young Sonoran Desert Toad (Bufo / Incilius alvarius)
All the best,
Jeremy

Thanks a bunch, Jeremy.

I just stumbled on to some pics of very young "alvarius" and you are absolutely right!

Good stuff.
