Herping in North Central Florida

Post by holybamboozle »

I'm a fresh transplant into the Gainesville, FL area and am looking for some tips and info! I'm not terribly familiar with the fauna in this area, so firstly does anyone have a general list of the most common herps in the north central part of the state? I've been told anolis, A. piscivorus, and nerodia are the ones most commonly seen. I'd be very interested to see if anyone knows of some C. horridus populations.

Secondly, without treading on toes or asking for government secrets, does anyone know of good herping areas around Gainesville? I realize this time of year won't really be the best to do herping, but I'm trying to scope out some decent areas that might give me some good finds.

Thanks in advance, and happy herping!
