The concluding post of my recent trip to Malaysia.
Check out the previous parts here
Part 1 Featuring a Dragon snake and Caecilian http://www.fieldherpforum.com/forum/vie ... =2&t=24712
Part 2 with a Krait and Pangolin http://www.fieldherpforum.com/forum/vie ... =2&t=24730
We traveled down to Kuching and proceeded out to the nearby Matang range to try find a pretty special little, Microhyla borneenis
Herping was slow but we did manage this small Tropidolaemus subannulatus
A Green crested dragon (Bronchocela cristatella)
After searching a few clusters of Nepenthes ampullaria we manged to find them
Microhyla borneenis
These cute frogs are dependant on the pitchers in which they lay their eggs and the tadpoles develop.
And they really are tiny
After some road cruising towards the Indonesian border we came across this juvenile Malayan banded wolf snake (Lycodon subcinctus). Potentially a krait mimic like some other Lycodon species.
And so our time in Borneo came to an end. Flying out through Kuala Lumpur we spent a few extra days and herped with the Notorious Kurt Orion. Im sure its been stated in previous posts but if you are after someone to show you some herps in Malaysia, Kurt is your man. Check him out here https://www.facebook.com/HerpingMalaysi ... =693313275 I can't recommend him highly enough.
We went out for three nights and saw some epic stuff, here are some highlights.
Elegant Bronzeback (Dendrelaphis formosus)
Wallace's flying frog (Rhacophorus nigropalmatus)
Norhayati's Flying Frog (Rhacophorus norhayatii)
Juvenile male Wagler's Pit Viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri)
Dead Leaf Mantis (Deroplatys sp)
A juvenile Reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus)
Kuhl's flying gecko (Ptychozoon kuhli)
Triangle keelback (Xenochrophis trianguligerus)
And my favourite Snake of the Mainland by far, Hagen's Green Pit Viper (Parias hageni)
All in all a great trip. My next adventure is to the Yucatan, Mexico, volunteering with a Conservation NGO. I will have 2 weeks afterwards (August) to herp further in the area. Can anyone recommend any herper guides in the area or better yet any members willing to meet up? Swing me a message.
Cheers all, I hope you enjoyed this set of reports.
