This alien lizard was found in a garage in the Central Valley. It has to be an escaped pet, but I'm not familiar enough with the pet trade to identify it.
Anybody know the species?

Or Chinese plastic.
Re: Alien Lizard Identification Needed
Seriously, someone actually sent me the picture asking me to identify the lizard, and I'm pretty sure they thought it was real. Maybe planting fake herps to fool people has become a new hobby. (Is that still Fieldherping?) I have also been sent other pictures to identify that were toy reptiles people saw in their yard or next to a hiking trail, thinking they were real. Usually they're little rubber snakes like the one below, obviously set there by a prankster, but I've also received pictures of very realistic toy iguanas that people thought were real, like the one below, and the craziest thing is that they all thought they saw the animals moving. One person insisted that I was wrong because she swore that the plastic snake in the picture she sent me was "slithering."

I wanted to say that it looked a dollar store lizard I bought my son, but I figured this must be an inside joke you had with someone. So I didn't want to ruin the fun. Definitely a toy though.

Haha. Many visitors to my childhood home were startled by a rubber snake laying in the yard or somewhere in the house.

Whole post is great.
I think as long as there have been herpers, there have been prank, fake herps!
Every time I hear of one left on a popular herping area I smile.
Interesting subset of this is when a neighborhood boy, a friend of my son, +25 years ago, threw a rubber snake up in a tree in his yard. It landed in the crotch of a branch.
5 years ago my neighbor cut the tree down.
Here's what they found:

BillMc, that one takes the cake! That is so awesome that could have happened.

The snake-eating tree is awesome!
It reminds me of the bicycle-eating tree near Seattle.

Regarding the 'odd', wondering if you've seen this color pattern on a whiptail. Found this olive one at the quarry...

OK, you got me. That's an even nastier practical joke than a 3d fake toy because it doesn't look impossible. I've certainly seen rock that color, and green lizards are common all over the world.
