Is this an Eastern Milk Snake?
I was birding today at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Queens, NY today. Good thing I happened to look down as I was walking on the trail, because I almost tripped over a snake stretched across the path. At first glance, I thought it was a cornsnake, but when I got home, I did some more research. I got to take a crummy pic of the snake with a cell phone, having left my camera at home. This little guy was about 2' long, about an inch in diameter. It was very calm, let me take my picture, hung around a bit longer, then slithered off into the weeds by the side of the path.

Yes, you are right.
A young one.
Though that refuge is a place that is not wall to wall people, It's always a special find that close to NYC.
Good one.

Thanks, Bill. Snakes are not my specialty; I'm much more of a lizard aficionado.
