At 487 grams, he is dominant breeding male. Check out the scarring on his chin and belly.

These big bois are strong and eat to grow. Bigger=stronger=morefemales because they can fight off smaller males.

Its a heavyweight versus a lightweight, and not much of a fight. I don't know how to imbed a you tube video, but the link shows combat in two Great Basin rattlesnakes (neither are the big boi from up above).

The bigger male was 600 grams and the smaller male 400 grams. Its like a two or three punch boxing match where the loser just turns around and runs.
