Joshua Tree/Anza-Borrego

Post by Puffin »

Hello!

My friend and I are visiting Joshua Tree/Anza-Borrego until Sunday. Went out for our first day today with limited success: highlights were Desert Iguana, Mojave Fringe-toed Lizard, and Speckled Rattlesnake.

That being said, we felt lost with a lot of our searching. Have been trying to follow Harold F. De Lisle's Amphibians and Reptiles of Joshua Tree as a rough guide of habitat to look for things.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for spots in the park to focus on.

Also, is there anyone who might be available to take us out as a guide while we are here.

Thank you

Speckled is a nice find! I'd love to see one in JT sometime.

What in particular are you hoping to see? Palm oases are generally good habitat to check out, especially in Anza-Borrego where there are peninsular species (and the shade is nice).

mid-September is usually poor in the Mojave, so your finds may be routine for current time of year and conditions.
