Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa Time

Post by brick911 »

Its that time of year. My Mom, who still spoils me  , is asking me for a list of things I would like. Use this thread to post anything you would like fieldherping, or outdoor related. Whether its something you want, or something you have that you think is great and other people need... put it here. Whenever you think of something new, post it, please.

I'll start with things off the top of my head:

Manfrotto Mighty Low Boy Tripod
Lens covers (I like to smack my camera into rocks and cinderblocks as I flip.)
Cloth tape measure for snakes in the field
Mini maglites
Herpnation subscription

I don't have the cash for a really nice camera, so I'm looking to get a Pentax Optio W90 (super macro, 1 cm focal distance). Also, a new longer hook, and a scale that can accurately weigh my big rainbow boas.

I actually can't think of another herp related gift.
but my old stand by is any field guide from anywhere other than the east coast.

for me(thought they never do it) a simple gift card to amazon meets all my needs.

Happy thanksgiving

Doug... What field guides from the Northeast would you suggest? Or anywhere on the east coast. I know you are a fieldguide nut. I might add some to my list.

My list I guess is short.

Then some under armor for winter.

Maybe some more hiking socks.

And a new aquatic net. (which I may or may not just get for my daughter and use it too :) )

Not sure of anything else, I will have to think. I seem to have many books I am already behind on reading.

I saw this book once the first time I went to Hamburg for $15 and didn't get it. I planned on getting it at the next show, couldn't find it, and now I can't find it for less than $300 online, but they did come out with a second edition.....

Just so you know the second edition is actually the same as the first edition just with a bunch of new pages(at least thats what I read). So you could just buy the second edition.

These field socks are as comfortable in the summer and insulating in the winter are Smart Wool but they come with a lifetime guarantee. No questions asked, if your socks are damaged you can send them in for a free replacement. A buddy of mine tore one of his on a nail and got a free replacement from the company. The only thing you don't get a replacement for is losing a sock. That's what I did...

Does anyone know where to buy a great flash light or lamp for night stuff and road cruising? That would make my life so much better. Every cheap flashlight I buy breaks. I will put no price on illuminating my world reliably.

Go to Walmart, they have a nice spot light that is very good... I have had mine since the beginning of the year and havent changed batteries yet.

I also have a Black and Decker headlamp but it was close to $50.

Princeton Tec makes some great stuff. Especially their LED lights.

The last two headlamps I've owned have been from Princeton Tec and I've generally been pleased with their performance. The first one I got only lasted 1 year but that's because a battery leaked while it was sitting idle over the winter (I got a $5 extended warranty which replaced it luckily). I have this one now.

Thats a great light. I have two of them and no problems. I usually take the batteries out over the winter unless they will be used for some reason. I have a 8 C-cell LCD handheld light that is great. It really light up a path.
