Setting up some AC and my first good day of the year

Post by Saunders »

Well yesterday a friend and I went around and set up some AC spots and actually found an area with some sheet metal already there.
My car at the start of the day.

Under a small piece of tin was this Texas Spiny lizard.

The tin site we found. Sorry for the bright pics, I left my ISO really high from the night before and forgot to reset it.

Today I went out and dropped the last few boards. It was meant to be a short trip: go set down boards, then leave. However, it lasted much longer.

A small texas spiny lizard I saw on the way to the drop off zone.
Image

After I left the lizard, who had seemingly ran off, I felt something prickly against my outer thigh. I looked down and felt something move.
I found this, in my pants. I don't really know how he got there.

A very small owl.

After dropping off the boards I decided to do some quick rock flipping.
This one looked good.

Oh boy was I right.

The first of many Western Slimy Salamanders.
These are a very uncommon species in the hill country, I have only found about 13 in my life and hadn't seen one since late october.
Not 10ft away was this rock.

The rock had a smaller rock underneath it so I lifted it up.

And to end, a cave that I found.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you find under your AC.

In your first pic of tin in the open woodland...what would you expect to find in that type of hab out there?
Nice job on the Sals!

I can definitely expect to find coral snakes. Ratsnakes are also probable, and I know someone who has found a Yellow Bellied Racer near there.

Looks like you've got a nice little herping playground set up out there. Good luck and make sure you post your results :thumb:
