Guanajuato, Mexico

Hello everyone

I will be making a trip to Guanajuato in August. Any tips on finding the crote species there? I will be near Cueramaro

En Cuerámo hay Crotalus aquilus, Crotalus polystictus y Crotalus molossus nigrescens. Para encontrar Crotalus aquilus te sugiero subir arriba de 2000 m y buscar en piedras, como sí fueran Crotalus lepidus. Para Crotalus polysctictus lo más sencillo es buscar en la careterra en la noche, en areas de zacate o en pastizales, siempre arriba de los 1900 m. Crotalus molossus estan por todas partes en aquella zona. Hay una brecha que va de Cuerámo a Pénjamo, cruzando una mesa de alturas arriba de 2000 m. Yo empezaría ahí por los tres especies.

Estoy de acuerdo con Chris. Vete por esa brecha al suroeste de Cueramano, y busca piedras cerca de: 20°34'31.43"N, 101°46'55.43"W.

Hemos visto Crotalus lepidus aquilus al oeste de esa zona (pero en Jalisco). Son refeas, pero son aquilus!

Is August a good month to find the crotalus species, or would you suggest a different month?

For what you're going for, August should be fine. You might find it tough to cruise some nights because of the rains, but you should have mornings and into early afternoon clear.
