Examples of multiple species sharing the same space?

Post by vincemartino » August 13th, 2011, 6:28 pm

I came across this Eastern Garter and Northern Watersnake basking on top of each other the other day. There was also a recent find by another Northeast member who found a Copperhead basking right up next to a couple of Northern Watersnakes. I am just curious to see what photos you guys have that are similar in nature. Doesn't have to be snakes!

Thanks,

Have you seen Kyle's flip with like 4 species of snake under it? I think Bob has a pic in his book. Maybe he'll post

A couple photos of multiples found while flipping with the Canebrake Cowboy in the past.

Ants, mamba & red-bellied watersnake under car hood.
Image

2 copperheads and a chicken snake under car hood.
Image

Both of these pieces of cover were snake magnets in the past, haven't produced doo-doo this year!

EDIT: Hunting wells at old farm houses in Lyon Co., KS, in the past, I've found racers, black rats, great plains rats, Osage coppers, milks, ringnecks, saugas, prairie kings and specks, and bullsnakes all in association. No pics........too busy trying to grab something without getting nailed by something else! The vast majority were racers and black rats. The rest were just onesy twosey.

There are some neat photos in this thread! Like most of you we often find multiple species under AC. This a photo of a corn snake, southern racer and eastern garter.

Not really quite the same thing but, we often trap multiple species as well. So in a round about way I guess you could say they were found together though not all together in a totally natural way.

Yea I have, it's pretty awesome. Like 2 greens, a garter, and a brown or something.

Oh, and Incuhead, you inspired the post with your copperhead watersnake photo.

Some pretty flippin' awesome photos here. I live the frog on the gator, the lizard on the komodo, and the skink on top of the water snake.

And some of you guys have the most amazing luck flipping stuff! I would die to see a garter, a corn, and a rat under one board!

There's actually 7 snakes there. ...Still my favorite multi-flip picture. I keep trying though because Kyle won't let me live it down that he actually flipped it and I keep taking credit for it because his camera battery died.

Really? My Tom Johnson field guide says there hasn't been a smooth green documented in Missouri for like 50 years or something.

No pics, but I know a den that is used by northern copperheads, northern watersnakes, black ratsnakes, eastern gartersnakes and northern ring-necked snakes. I've seen the copperheads, rats and watersnakes all at the same time.

I have a mostly picture oriented book that I made on Shutterfly. It was something I did in 2009 and am currently working on my 2010 book, to give as gifts to my family and people who care about my kids as they are always herping with me, and the grandparents like to see what they do all year. :) Anyway, it ended up being 64 pages long that year, and I brought a copy to a recent NE Chapter expedition for whoever was in the back seat while we rode from spot to spot. If anyone is interested, I can email you an online copy. Just pm me your email address. They are all pictures that were posted in the pre-crash days.
