Since it stopped raining this morning, I decided to head out to a couple of spots in SF. Glad that I did--it turned out to be a pretty good day for urban herping. Please take a look and let me know if my ID assumptions are correct.
Here are some habitat shots.
Looks like an Elgaria multicarinata multicarinata--it was about 10 inches long.
A few minutes later, I found another one. This one was smaller--maybe about 7 inches.
Then things really started to get good when I found this 4 foot Pituophis catenifer catenifer. It was well fed, strong, and aggressive.
Then, at another undisclosed urban location, I flipped a rock and found 2 Thamnophis elegans terrestris'--only was able to photograph one of them, though.
As per usual, I will add these to the database once the knowledgeable ones confirm the IDs.

Nice stuff, Luke. At this pace, you'll exhaust the county in about 2 weeks.

Amazing! Cool finds, Luke

Dude, NOT COOL MAN. This is MY city haha!
Were you trying to text me pics earlier today? If so, I don't get pic messages (still a dumb phone, not smart phone yet).
Jesus christ...a gopher snake!? What the hell man....what the hell...

Holy crap man...I never would have thought we would have the ecosystems here in SF to support such a large, prominent predator like a gopher snake. Amazing. Simply amazing.
About tomorrow, we better find some snakes with your luck!

Don't jinx me, man! Just remember--the snakes are already there; you just have to find them.Zach_Lim wrote:Holy crap man...I never would have thought we would have the ecosystems here in SF to support such a large, prominent predator like a gopher snake. Amazing. Simply amazing.

Man, oh man. Mr. Talltree, I'm impressed. I've only a managed a foot and a half gopher here in the wilds of Santa Cruz!

Good stuff and nice pics... kinda addicting, Huh? jim
And, BTW... thx for the care you're taking with locality release. While it's an FHF rule not to release precise locality info, here at Nafha, it's more of a gentleman's agreement... and I appreciate the effort you've taken to fit in.
