On Dec. 3rd my son and I took a drive over to visit a friend in Butte County CA. The weather was nice and in the 60's. It felt pretty good considering it was below freezing at home in Reno. We weren't there to herp but we all know you can't just walk by an object and not wonder what is underneath. We did not see much but even a few tiny critters are a welcome sight for a Nevadan in December.
I've been pretty lax on my data base entries so I think I'll start back with these.
Some Pond Turtle habitat on the drive up.
These little scelops were running around in the afternoon. This one didn't look over a couple weeks old.
You know things have been slow when you get excited over a Fence Lizard.
California Slenders were under most of the cover we turned.
This is only the second Contia I have seen in the wild. Apparently I need to be looking during cooler times of the year.
Back to NV. to wait out the Winter.
Happy Holidays,

That Contia is a nifty-looking little snake. Beautiful habitat shot, too.
