Hi all,
I’m helping to coordinate NY’s section of the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program and I thought that this might be a good place to spread the word. For those of you that haven’t heard of it NAAMP is a volunteer based frog and toad monitoring program overseen by the USGS. Essentially volunteers conduct four evening calling surveys in the spring and summer, on a number of set routes. The USGS then uses the data from this to get estimate changes in range, population, and phenology.
Currently NY’s NAAMP activity is limited to the Hudson River Valley (funding constraints…), so the range is rather limited. However, if you are interested in attending a training and learning more here are the dates:
Feb 2nd from 6-8PM in New Paltz
Feb 7th from 6-8PM in Yorktown
Feb 11th from 2-4PM in Stone Ridge
Feb 14th from 6-8PM in Middletown
Feb 15th from 6-8PM in Mahopac
Feb 16th from 6-8PM in Millbrook
Feb 22nd from 6-8PM in Catskill
Feb 23rd from 6-8PM in Chester
Feb 25th from 2-4PM in Ghent
Mar 1st from 6-8PM in Grafton
Just PM me if you’re interested and I can sign you up and send you more info.
-Ben
Mods: I hope this doesn’t violate forum rules. I’ve read them over and as far as I can tell it doesn’t but please let me know if I’ve missed something

No Ben, actually this is great! I was planning on looking for any contacts for NAAMP frog routes and you just saved me some research.
The actual training is a great idea!

Great idea, and welcome to the forum Ben
If anyone would like more info on NAAMP, look here: http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/naamp/
I've used NAAMP data collected in MD and DE for a project 2 years ago and it could definitely use more volunteers.

I am in my 5th year with NAAMP and my third year doing routes in 3 states.... get out there and do it. Matt needs your data. I switched routes for this year so I know of one that is vacant... copes gray trees, crickets, green treefrogs... et al.

Thanks for the support everyone! And the links too. Not a lot of NYers around the forum but I figured I might get a strike or two. The NY program is small right now but we're hoping to continue growing it in the next few years.
It's great to know that there are so many dedicated herpers in the NE. Always been a passion of mine (and now it's my livelihood).
