And you also have to remember that is in between the Newport range of OC and the kings in Western Riverside Co. you say have Newport influence.
Re: What Kinda King Izzat
How do you know for sure? That's BS, those stripers were not released there.
I have seen 100's of kings from that area and NEVER have I seen a sd striper, or hell even a newporter with "Clean" sides..
Never heard of one either..
Ort Hwy yes on the coast NO..
I am not saying it was released, but no one can say for sure it wasn't..
There have been "released" stripers found in SB county too..

I have no knowledge or experience with socal herping, but was there or is there a purpose why someone would release calkings? Old relinquished pets? Attempt to establish wild stock?
I've heard a similar rumor (or truth) involving the release of several species at a well known zonata dump site within the Santa Cruz mountains. Apparently, people have released milksnakes and calkings in the area...

Lou, thats another cool king you've found!
No doubt, due to the tail, I would classify it as an SD striper. I also recognize, that from aproxomatly San Juan Capistrano to Oceanside, both types probably intergrade.. and that king looks to fall into that catagory. I also find the amount of hyper melanistic kings found in South OC. interseting.
Nice find..

Zach: They would either release them to save them from development, or as a joke...

OK I will respond. I'm not sure what area you are talking about. If you are talking about the area me and Hubbs talked about on the phone, you may have a point. Anything is possible. If they really do occur there, they should be found between there and the SD border.Fundad wrote:How do you know for sure? That's BS, those stripers were not released there.

Not directed to Fundad- IMO, Lou's king does not look intermediate between a Newport and SD striper. If any king ever did, it was this one.
A similar looking OC Newport
SD striper
Lou's king

Looks like a Valley Highway Striper to me.

I think it looks more like a Coastal highway striper. Maybe even a PCH highway striper.Aaron wrote:Looks like a Valley Highway Striper to me.
