What folks who are tricked into opening this thread should do now is post a whole bunch of replies to it so it rises to the top as a busy discussion.

I hope your holidays are off to a nice start, Daryl - you jerk! :P

It's Waldo hunters like you that give us a bad name! Go out there and put in your time like the rest of us to find your own population of Waldos. You'll only appreciate your find if you spend dozens of hours of your life looking for them.

I was looking for Waldo, but a tough find in certain habitats due to the excellent camouflage.

Don't be too hard on him Jake. The sad truth is that the internet has already taken the challenge out of looking for Waldo. You and I grew up in the glory days of extensive and unaided searching. Spending hours scanning the habitat, checking behind cover items, trying to establish just the right search image so that we could see past matching surroundings, decode the crypsis, and FINALLY spot the elusive creature.

These days, any color-blind noob with a keyboard can spot hundreds of Waldos in mere minutes. A simple Google image search reveals countless poorly hidden and helplessly exposed Waldos. The poor Waldo in this post never had a chance. On reflection, I feel quite guilty for exposing him for my own selfish pursuit of entertainment.

I myself spent many a day in my childhood trying to spot these beautiful creatures. I've always been intrigued by their preference for habitat that is infested with other animals. It can be downright frustrating trying to pick out the lone waldensis, or "Waldo" for those of you unfamiliar with the scientific name of these creatures.

I have to laugh, to hear all of you young pups talking about Waldo hunting as if you knew what you were talking about from long experience. Those of us who were actually there at the beginning and have put in all of the long, hard hours since know that the search was originally for Wallace - and unlike simpleton Waldo that little monkey was genuinely hard to find!

P.S. Owen, for some reason your image isn't displaying for me.

I wasn't going to bring it up, but now that someone else has mentioned inappropriate handling... Daryl, it looks to me as if Waldo has been posed in the picture you posted. Not cool! Do you think maybe next time you could leave him undisturbed, and be satisfied with an in situ shot?

I remember back in the good old days when you could keep any Waldos you found. I had a large collection when I was a kid but now I'm afraid that habitat loss is hurting our Waldo populations.

Have any of you guys ever found Waldo DOR?

I just know someone is going to ask for scientific proof of this (what a farce!) but we all know that handling Waldos causes them unnecessary stress and can shorten their lifespan. I stopped holding Waldos after I started seeing less and less of them. That was also when a housing development bulldozed their habitat, but I'm sure that had nothing to do with it

You're all a bunch of tree-hugging idiots. Those Waldos are dangerous, I was chased by one as a kid, never even saw him until he was almost to me. Luckily I was a fast kid. Nowadays, I work hard to get rid of all Waldos by my house, usually a shovel to the head. I found a nest of 'em once. Poured gas on them a lit them up. Last one I saw around here was about 3 years ago, hope to never see another.

if some of you book-lernt fellas would only watch... listen... learn... instead of being so eager all the time to pounce... waldo could teach you so much... thru long years of gentle, patient study i got to know him on a much deeper level than so-called science ever could... even got to the point where he'd come out from under the sheet of plywood in my backyard to take a mug of hot chocolate from me... right out of my hand no less... find that in some book!... hahahahahahahahahahahaha...

Its really lovely the way you have established a bond, but perhaps another beverage would be more suitable? Liptons tea has been used for many years with no ill effects. Hot Chocolate can cause flatulence. Not always but it has been reported to occur.

Some of you Waldo huggers piss me off. You treat him like he is some kind of endangered species and take pictures of him like your out whalewatching or something. I DO NOT practice catch and release waldo hunting he clearly is an invasive species that does damage to native wildlife and should be eliminated at every opportunity.

I've successfully kept, and bred captive Waldos for years now. It seems they thrive in densely populated habitats, with lots of ground cover. I really hope USAWK (United States Association of Waldo Keepers) wins this battle of Waldo-keeping legalities. It really is ridiculous at this point, it seems the "only good Waldo, is an exposed Waldo" mentality continues to thrive. I'm disappointed in our society's lack of respect for such a majestic and ecologically friendly animal.

Glad you finally found your way to one of the all-time best threads at FHF, Brian!

I meant to post this earlier: Your kids put some great work into that snow Waldo, Daryl! Kudos to them and you for another huge contribution to this thread! :thumb:

I've been meaning to ask, why doesn't Waldo have his own subforum here at FHF? It's downright discriminatory, is what it is. We shouldn't have to sift through all of that boring talk about reptiles and amphibians on the main board (let alone visit the Board Line) to find the rare Waldo thread that might appear there. In fact, other than when this thread first appeared, I can't even recall the last time I saw Waldo pictured or even so much as mentioned there! Come on, Scott, give Waldo a home of his own, as he and his fans deserve!
