Do any of you guys breed these amazing creatures? I just got into it and i bred a CB striped male to a WC female highway morph and I'm curious on how the baby's are going to turn out.

I breed a different subspecies. I have eggs cooking now.
Re: California kingsnake breeding
I bred them for years, and they were great fun. Amazingly polymorphic in the wild, you could easily wind up with striped, or broken striped, or mixed up aberrant patterns or banded, 1/2 stiped/1/2 banded etc., any or all. I remember being a bit dissapointed as a kid when breeding two striped and getting banded hatchlings. With your CB male, it could have an absolute witch's brew of genetics, so you could be surprised, but I would predict the previous. Good luck and have fun, post photos of the hatchlings, they will no doubt be little gems. Personally, I would like to see more "locality type" cal kings bred, maybe you can find a mate for your wild caught and establish that locality type? Certainly there are already an abundance of generic CB kings with no known origin, and the myriad morphs today are largely from selectively breeding for over 4 decades now. Some of the wild type naturally occuring morphs have already dissapeared or are vulnerable, i.e. the so called "grease kings" in coastal So. Cal etc.

Re: California kingsnake breeding
repaphin, you had some really hard to find morphs like that barred morph and the blotched morph you were calling a Newport. Sure there are other barred morphs out there, but the one you had was almost fully complete. That's rare and that blotched morph is even more rare. You will see how rare they really are as the years pass by and you don't find any more that look as nice as those did. Then you will really be ...... BTW, that female is looking gravid.
Re: California kingsnake breeding
Thanks! I'm just in denial about them lol but thanks i was even wondering if she was gravid or my eyes were playing tricks on me., i fed her and the meal was in the upper body. But as you look closer to the tail KA-BOOM

Re: California kingsnake breeding
lol I can see why, Well, they always say to provide gravid females with heat. Just use your better judgement. If its getting cool at night, provide it at that time.
Re: California kingsnake breeding

Hate to be a drag, but you better check into the legal aspects of what you're doing (especially now since you posted it).

It is, but it's also illegal to possess the babies beyond a certain time without a permit. Read those regs carefully! You have to do paperwork every year, and if you don't renew and pay $, you can't keep the babies any longer.
Re: California kingsnake breeding
oh im not planning on keeping babys just to see genetic outcomes

Re: California kingsnake breeding
Can you legally give them away without a permit, or would they have to be destroyed?

Re: California kingsnake breeding
I believe they can be legally given away - I think an individual has 45 days to do so.
