Anyone know of any CB salamander breeders?

Post by Matt J »

Hey guys,

I'm currently in the process of setting up a terrarium for salamanders but I'm having a hard time finder dealers of wild-caught or CB individuals. I'm interested in any terrestrial salamander not found in the U.S. and was leaning towards Fire Salamanders since they seem more readily available. There aren't too many listed on Kingsnake, does anyone know of a breeder/supplier for my needs?

Thanks for any help

If you're interested in Captive Bred (I'd assume so, based on what I've considered to be your conservation-minded approach to things), these are nice: http://market."not allowed"/detail.php? ... &de=927235 and so are these: http://market."not allowed"/detail.php? ... &de=927236.

I believe Jeff Benfer has bred them in the past, I don't know if he actively breeds them. You could try contacting him:

I live in one of the hotter places in the world, so they are not an option, but when I was a kid, I had Tigers that did real well. Easy keepers, and you could just buy larvae at a bait shop that caters to bass anglers, and let them metamorph (is that a word?). Some tigers are gorgeous, others less so. I think they are fun animals and they were EZ keepers. Those European Salamandra are also good choices, as are variou newts, some of which are readily captive bred.
Have fun and let us know how it goes. If I ever move back to a cooler place, I want to raise a giant Axoltl...

Iranian Newts are spectacular. I know that Dick Bartlett is breeding them. I have some pics of recent metamorphs on a computer at home, I don't think I have them online.

There is a local guy here that produces a lot of CB Fire Salamanders. Let me know if you are interested in his contact info.
