I've got a pair, a wild caught from Peach Springs, AZ and a rescue that I have no clue where he is from. Hope to breed them next year.

Ive got one. CB. Pretty with alot of white. It was a relinquishment. I will never breed her. Not interested in creating more relinquishments. They are second only to cornsnakes in glutting the rescues and craigslist in this respect.

She is a great snake - she is in my room not in the room where all my other guys are. She flows out of her cork lair and assumes such lovely poses and its always such a treat.

I breed the Green Valley, AZ, form of common kingsnake. I consider it an intergrade Cal king x desert king, although other folks have different opinions. I also keep the Long Beach hypomelanistic king and I haven't bred them, yet. Cooling and breeding is pretty straight forward.

Repaphin,

It may just be the picture or the snakes pose but your huge male looks a little overweight. I can't tell for sure but if he is over 3 years old and adult size you may want to cut his food intake back. Another couple of pictures would help. Hibernating him would be a great way to start. Slowly reducing his body fat will add years to his life. Reducing weight in males often takes well over a year.
What do you feed him?

I am not trying to be critical, just an observation. Fitness in captive snakes is a very complex problem.

I have an Albino Cal king named Spaz (We call him that for a reason) He was at the pet store for over a year and nobody wanted him so they just gave him to me. He was an adult when I got him in 2002. He's sweet, but jumpy! Once you get him picked up he's tame as a length of rope... except at feeding time:

Here he is at his best... trying to kill the curtain hanging near his cage.

He was suspended in mid-air for about 20 minutes before he figured out what was going on.

Kingsnakes... Cute but dumb. Love em! :D

I have a CB 50/50 desert phase, recently rescued and I was told he is 2 years old, though he only weighs 69g.

I just got into this hobby, and I plan on getting some wild caughts next year, and plan on acquiring quite a few more to start some breeding projects. :)

I think so too :)

He was owned by a 14 year old who he bit. He was pretty fiesty when I got him about 2 months ago, but has calmed down with a lot of handling. I also suspect he was underfed, he was fed pinkies. In two months he has gone from 69g to 90g, and eats like a champ!

My snakes are brumating but the male i posted is like a pound! he is really heavy and active even during brumation. I have a few adults that are really sluggish now.
