Valley elderberry longhorn beetle

Post by FunkyRes »

While looking at pages related to Rana draytonii I came across a photo of a beetle described as threatened that I know I have seen multiple times -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valley_eld ... orn_beetle

I can't recall where I've seen it, I believe I have seen them though very close to my house. I know I encounter live specimens with some frequency, next time I'll take note on exactly where.

Where should reports of such a species be made?

Are there similar species I might be confusing it with?

Done a little more searching, seems this beetle is actually quite common now and may have never been as uncommon as they thought when it was listed.

Sounds like fodder for the "rare" vs "common" discussion in the Bog Turtle thread.

Definitely one of the better looking Cerambycids.
