I.D. this strange sucker? and a good sized wolf spider today

Never seen anything like this guy before (Daniel or some other expert have an i.d.?) looks like some crazy beetle/wasp hybrid. 1 1/2 to 2 inches It had undeveloped wing covers. Utah Wasatch range

Your beetle is genus Meloe.
