Fox Squirrels

Post by Dave »

The first fox saw me coming, walked over to a nearby fence post, climbed it and posed just long enough for the picture, and then casually walked away. I always find them to be pretty laid-back.

Thanks! I'm always impressed with their size as well. For example, the first one compared to the fence post.

Wow. That is a cool looking fox squirrel! What state is it from? Our [MN] fox squirrels look like over-sized gray squirrels with more orange on their heads/tails. Never seen one around here with black on its head.

Not my photo but a good example for what we see around here:

Cool looking Fox Squirrel. I have only seen those "hooded" versions in Florida, I would guess that is where your pictures were taken. Saw one really wild looking one in Apalachicola a few years back. In Ohio, all I ever see are ones that look like what Chris posted. Although, we do have tons of black phase Gray Squirrels.
