importing question

Post by herpseeker1978 » January 5th, 2015, 10:46 am

I just imported all my records from herp, if I do it again will it duplicate the records already imported?

Nope. If you import again, it will update your records on HerpMapper with any changes you made on HERP, as well as add any new records.

No one reads the yellow box on the bottom of the import page?

You should be aware that if there are mismatches in the taxonomy between the two databases, Herpmapper will import your taxon with the common name Unknown ID but keep the scientific name as it was in HERP.

Not a big deal for most people, but worth checking if you have some of those taxa. For example, naherp still has the Plateau Spotted Whiptail as Aspidoscelis septemvittata while Herpmapper has it as A. scalaris.

So when you import your HERP data it won't match it. And if you fix it in herpmapper by changing it to scalaris, next time you import it will recreate the problem. We have to fix those problems as they arise and people are working on it.

(EDIT - I just fixed the septemvittata problem by making it a synonym of scalaris in Herpmapper, but there are other examples of this that will have to be fixed one at a time).
