In the meantime the egg masses have been ID'd as Spea hammondii by Sam Sweet. This is great news as it means that we found - and vouchered - a new Western Spadefoot locality in LA County.

I predict, and I might be going out on a limb here, that they will develop into Spadefoots... ;)
