Some trivia:
About a week ago, my wife and I attended dinner in Eugene with members of the Oregon Herpetological Society. The occasion was a 10 year memorial dinner celebrating the life of the late Dr. James Kezer (1908 - 2002) who was an outstanding professor at U. of O. and avid herper.
Sitting next to me was herpetologist Dr. John Applegarth of Eugene who made a very interesting comment. He mentioned that Dr. Kezer (and others) started the Oregon Herpetological Society in 1954. He indicated there was only one other herp society in the U.S. that was older, the Philadelphia Herpetological Society
Dr. Applegarth indicated he had saved some historical documentation from the inception of the Oregon Herp Soc. If he is correct, then Oregon's Herp. Society is older than similar herping groups in S. Calif., Texas, Florida, Arizona, etc.
